How to Responsibly Dispose of Bones

Bones are a common waste item that can be responsibly disposed of in several ways. If you have leftover bones from cooking or eating, here are some methods to avoid sending them to the landfill:

  • Compost: Bones can be added to a compost pile, but keep in mind that decomposition may take longer compared to other organic matter. It is best to crush or grind the bones before adding them to the compost to speed up the process.
  • Burying: If you have a garden or outdoor space, burying bones can be an option. Dig a hole deep enough to prevent animals from digging them up and cover the bones with soil.
  • Donation: Certain bones, such as large animal bones or antlers, can have reuse value for crafts, decor, or pet toys. Consider donating them to artists, crafters, or animal shelters.

Please note that bones are not hazardous or a safety risk, but they can attract animals if not properly disposed of. Make sure to handle and store them in sealed containers or bags to prevent unwanted attention.
