How to Responsibly Dispose of Balloons
Balloons are a fun and festive decoration for parties and events, but it's important to dispose of them properly to avoid harm to the environment and wildlife. Here are some responsible methods to avoid the landfill when it comes to balloons:
- If the balloons are in good condition, consider reusing them for future events or passing them on to friends or family.
- Deflate the balloons by puncturing them with a sharp object, such as a pin or scissors. Once deflated, dispose of them in a plastic bag or trash bin.
- Check if your local recycling facilities accept latex balloons. If they do, make sure to remove any ribbons, clips, or other non-latex materials before recycling.
- Do not release balloons into the air as they can pose a significant hazard to wildlife and marine life. When balloons are released, they can end up in bodies of water or land, where animals mistake them for food or become entangled in the strings.
Balloons made of Mylar or metallic foil are not biodegradable and should not be recycled. These balloons should be disposed of in the trash.
