If you have an empty keg, there are a few different options for responsible disposal or reuse. Kegs are typically made of stainless steel, which is a valuable material that can be recycled. Here are some methods to avoid sending your empty keg to the landfill:

  • Return it to the store or brewery where you purchased it. Many sellers of kegs offer keg deposit programs and will provide a refund when you return the keg to them.
  • If the keg is damaged or no longer usable, you can bring it to a local metal recycling facility. They will accept the stainless steel keg for recycling and ensure that the material is properly processed.
  • If the keg is still in good condition, consider donating it to a homebrewing supply store or a local brewery. They may be able to repurpose the keg for their own brewing purposes.

It's important to note that kegs are not considered hazardous waste and do not pose a safety risk. However, it's always a good idea to properly clean and sanitize the keg before returning, recycling, or donating it.
