How to Responsibly Dispose of Candles

When it comes to candles, there are a few methods to avoid sending them to the landfill and dispose of them responsibly:

  • If the candle is still in good condition and can be used, consider donating it to a local charity or shelter. Many organizations accept gently used candles as they can provide a sense of comfort and relaxation to those in need.
  • If the candle is burned down and cannot be reused, you can recycle the glass jar or container. First, remove any residual wax by placing the jar in the freezer. Once the wax hardens, simply chip it away and dispose of it in the trash. Clean the jar thoroughly and recycle it with your glass items.
  • For candles with metal containers, such as candle tins or votives, remove any remaining wax and separate the metal from the non-recyclable parts. The metal can be recycled with other metal items, while the non-recyclable parts should be disposed of in the trash.
